World now more at risk of nuclear war than ever — expert

According to historian Peter Kuznick, Pope Leo XIV could play an important role to prevent it, as he acts as the "voice of peace and integrity internationally"

MOSCOW, November 2. /TASS/. The world is more at risk of nuclear war today than it ever has been before, said Peter Kuznick, a historian, author of the documentary series and the book "The Untold Story of the United States."

"The Spirit of the Elbe is something that needs to be embraced worldwide right now, at this moment. It is especially important at this moment because the world is at war, major wars on at least two fronts and the growing threat of a nuclear war," he said at a press conference at TASS dedicated to the strategic initiatives of the Spirit of Elbe international peace movement, which unites the memory of the alliance between the USSR and the United States during WWII with the development of modern public diplomacy projects.

According to the expert, Pope Leo XIV could play an important role in this issue, as he acts as the "voice of peace and integrity internationally." Kuznick sent him a letter asking him to "call an emergency summit of at least [Russian] President [Vladimir] Putin, [Chinese president] Xi Jinping, and [American leader] Donald Trump to get us off this path of nuclear war before it’s too late.

"We need to act with a sense of urgency to make sure that this does not happen. That is why we have the Spirit of the Elbe, which is a model for countries to get together, leaders to get together, people to get together, this grassroots movement to put pressure on all the leaders to sit down, to talk and to resort to diplomacy rather than warfare," he concluded.
