US would welcome allies’ decision to hand over fighter jets to Ukraine — White House

If one of allies and partners wants to provide fighter aircraft we would welcome that, John Kirby said

WASHINGTON, February 17. /TASS/. If any of the United States allies decides to hand over fighter jets to Ukraine, Washington would welcome that, Coordinator for Strategic Communications at the National Security Council in the White House John Kirby said on Friday.

"We have never dictated to another partner what they can or can't give [to Kiev]," he said. "If one of our allies and partners wants to provide fighter aircraft <…> we would welcome that.".

When asked about the possibility of US fighter jet supplies to Ukraine, Kirby replied that US President Joe Biden has already answered the question, and he has nothing to add to what the president had said.

The remarks came in response to Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki’s latest remarks that is country may supply Mig-29 fighter jets to Ukraine in coalition with other NATO countries. However, Morawiecki said Warsaw was not ready to hand over its F-16 aircraft to Ukraine, because it has a limited number of them.

US President Joe Biden said on January 31 that Washington would not hand over F-16 fighter jets to the Kiev government.
