Over 691,000 foreigners receive Russian citizenship in 2022

According to the agency, last year it denied entry to Russia to more than 141,000 foreigners which is almost 35,000 fewer than over the same period in 2021

MOSCOW, January 31. /TASS/. More than 691,000 foreign citizens obtained Russian citizenship last year which is 44,000 less than a year before, according to the Interior Ministry’s data on the migration situation in Russia for January-December 2022.

"Over January-December 2022, the number of individuals with regards to whom the decision was made on the obtainment of the Russian Federation’s citizenship is at 691,045," the ministry’s statement said. That said, in the previous year this number amounted to 735,385.

Additionally, according to the agency, last year it denied entry to Russia to more than 141,000 foreigners which is almost 35,000 fewer than over the same period in 2021.

Earlier, the Interior Ministry told TASS that last year 40 Russians withdrew from Russian citizenship.
