MOSCOW, March 15. /TASS/. France is being increasingly dragged into the conflict in Ukraine, it already participates in it, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov told a briefing, adding that in this situation Paris is becoming Moscow’s opponent.
"We read statements by Mr. [President of France Emmanuel] Macron," he said. "The fact that Russia is an opponent [for France as Macron stated] is, indeed, obvious to France as France has already been dragged into the war in Ukraine," Peskov added.
"In fact, it indirectly participates in this war, and judging by statements by Mr. President, it is not against deepening its involvement," he noted.
French President Emmanuel Macron said in an interview with the France 2 television earlier that Ukraine’s defeat in the conflict would not bring peace, while Paris would be ready to take necessary steps to prevent the victory of Russia, whose authorities it considers an opponent. That said, Macron noted that the country did not intend to initiate an escalation of the confrontation. He also expressed readiness to discuss the settlement of the Ukrainian conflict, adding though that he saw no possibilities for that so far.
