MOSCOW, February 27. /TASS/. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Ahmad Awad bin Mubarak, the head of Yemen’s internationally recognized government, will discuss the situation in the Middle East and Russia’s role in ensuring security and peace in the Republic of Yemen at a meeting in Moscow on Tuesday.
Bin Mubarak arrived on an official visit to the Russian capital at Russia's invitation on Monday. This is the Yemeni politician’s first foreign trip as prime minister. He was named as the new Yemeni premier on February 5 as he retained the post of the republic’s foreign minister, a position he has held since the end of 2020.
He is also expected to meet with the speakers of the lower house of Russia’s parliament, the State Duma, and the Federation Council, or the upper chamber, Vyacheslav Volodin and Valentina Matviyenko, respectively. The possibility of bin Mubarak meeting Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin is also being considered, Yemen’s embassy to Russia told TASS.
Ahead of the visit, Yemen’s state-owned news agency Saba reported that bin Mubarak would discuss bilateral relations, certain issues on the regional agenda and "the role of Russia in contributing to security and peace in Yemen.".
