IAEA informed about external power loss at Zaporozhye NPP

The ZNPP lost connection to its only remaining external power line, Ferosplavnaya-1, early on Sunday morning, The International Atomic Energy Agency Director General Rafael Grossi said

VIENNA, November 8. /TASS/. The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) said it has been notified that the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) has once again lost external power.

"The Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP) has once again lost all off-site power, forcing it to rely on emergency diesel generators for reactor cooling and other essential nuclear safety and security functions," the IAEA quoted its Director General Rafael Grossi as saying on its X page.

According to Grossi, the ZNPP lost connection to its only remaining external power line, Ferosplavnaya-1, early on Sunday morning. "It is the 27th such event during the conflict, underlining the continued precarious nuclear safety situation," he noted.

"The IAEA team at the ZNPP has been informed that the plant currently has sufficient fuel reserves to operate a limited number of emergency diesel generators for around two weeks.," the IAEA said, adding that Grossi emphasized the importance "of both restoring the ZNPP’s connection to the grid and increasing the amount of diesel fuel reserves available at the site.".
