MOSCOW, March 1. /TASS/. Google and Meta social platforms allow open anti-Russian propaganda and blocking of Russian mass media on its websites, Russian Foreign Ministry Department of Information and Press deputy head Oleg Gavrilov said at the Federation Council Temporary Commission on protection of sovereignty and prevention of foreign intervention in Russian internal affairs meeting Tuesday.
"We must pay special attention to the totally unacceptable behavior of foreign - American first and foremost - IT giants, such as Google and Meta," he said. "Hostile propaganda activities are being carried out openly on their social platforms, Russian information sources are being blocked, access to Russian mass media is being restricted, our search output is being pessimized, while fake news are being disseminated without obstruction, some of them disguised as contextual advertising."
According to Gavrilov, Western online services become not only an environment for spread of disinformation, but also directly get involved in such illegal activities.
"In these circumstances, development of a system to bring foreign warmongers to responsibility would become an important contribution to the national security and a measure of prevention of critical threats to the state viability," the diplomat said.
At the same time, the diplomat noted that it is unlikely that "those who has systematically carried out these malicious activities in Ukraine for all these years," will agree to a "constructive interaction with Russia".
