BEIJING, November 2. /TASS/. Beijing calls on Gulf countries to develop a new regional security architecture, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said at a meeting with Musaad bin Mohammed Al-Aiban, Saudi Arabia’s minister of state and national security advisor.
"China believes that all countries in the region should deepen mutual understanding, restore mutual trust, improve relations and live in peace and harmony. They should also hold consultations to promote the development of a new regional security architecture that would serve the long-term interests of the peoples of the region," Wang said, as cited by the Chinese Foreign Ministry.
"The situation in the region has once again reached a critical crossroads between war and peace. The path to peace is not easy, but it can lead to the desired goal. We hope that all parties will be able to resolve differences through dialogue and talks, end hostilities and ensure the safety of energy resources and shipping lanes in the region," the top Chinese diplomat added.
The United States and Israel launched a military operation against Iran on February 28. In June, Washington and Tehran signed a memorandum of understanding envisaging an immediate ceasefire on all fronts, including Lebanon. However, early on July 8, the United States resumed massive airstrikes on Iran, accusing Tehran of violating their previous agreements regarding the Strait of Hormuz.
