DUBAI, March 12. /TASS/. Anwar Gargash, senior diplomatic advisor to the United Arab Emirates president, will deliver US President Donald Trump’s letter to Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei through Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, Esmail Baghaei, spokesman for Iran’s Foreign Ministry, said.
"The UAE presidential advisor for diplomatic affairs will meet with Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi later today; he will hand over a letter from Trump to Iran," the ISNA news agency quoted the diplomat as saying.
Trump has repeatedly threatened to use military force against Iran in case Tehran failed to make a deal with Washington on Iran’s nuclear program. The US leader signed an executive order reinforcing a policy of maximum pressure on Iran, saying that he would not allow Tehran to obtain nuclear weapons. Khamenei, in turn, pointed out that Iran would not hold talks under pressure.
Trump announced on March 7 that he had sent a message to Khamenei calling for negotiations on the Iranian nuclear program. In response, the Iranian leader stated that the US was only guided by its own interests, which is why Tehran opposed talks with Washington.
