DUBAI, February 5. /TASS/. Iran is ready to give new US President Donald Trump a chance to resolve differences between the two countries diplomatically if Washington puts pressure on Israel, Reuters reported, citing a senior Iranian official.
According to him, Tehran wants the US to "rein in Israel if Washington is seeking a deal" with the country.
"Iran does not agree with any displacement of Palestinians and has communicated this through various channels. However, this issue and the path of Iran’s nuclear agreement are two separate matters and should be pursued separately," the senior diplomat added.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said earlier that the US president's concerns about Tehran obtaining nuclear weapons are unfounded because the country is committed to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and there is a fatwa (religious ruling) by the supreme leader prohibiting the creation of such weapons. He said the new attempt to put maximum pressure on Tehran will fail, just like all previous attempts.
On February 4, Trump signed an executive order to restore maximum US pressure on Iran. The document provides, among other things, that Washington will intensify efforts to reduce Iran's oil exports.
At the same time, during a joint press conference with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Trump announced the readiness of the United States to send troops to the Gaza Strip and to participate in the reconstruction of the enclave, turning it into a "Riviera of the Middle East." To this end, the US leader proposes to resettle the local population in neighboring countries: Egypt and Jordan. Cairo and Amman have opposed the deportation of Palestinians.
