ANKARA, February 5. /TASS/. US President Donald Trump’s initiative to resettle Palestinians from the Gaza Strip is deemed intolerable by Turkey and other nations in the region, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan stated.
"This is inadmissible. Other nations in the region responded similarly to Trump’s idea. This is the fundamental reason why the Palestine issue arose, when Palestinians were displaced from their lands and substituted by Israelis. Now, the situation has escalated to a point where the international community, especially the Islamic world, has achieved a consensus on resolving the Palestine issue through the establishment of two states, including a Palestinian state within the 1967 borders," Fidan said in an interview with the Anadolu news agency.
He pointed out that "some nations have not yet fully recognized Israel" but there was an understanding that "the issue will largely be addressed with the adoption of the two-state principle." "However, neither Israel nor America - Israel's foremost ally - has so far acknowledged [these realities]," the top Turkish diplomat added.
