Man, child killed in stabbing attack in southern Germany — report

The suspect, a 28-year-old Afghan man, has been detained

BERLIN, January 22. /TASS/. At least two people, including a toddler, were stabbed to death in a park in the city of Aschaffenburg in southern Germany, the Bild newspaper reported.

According to preliminary reports, the knife attack happened at 11:45 a.m. and targeted several people, including a group of children from a kindergarten. It was later reported that two people were killed: a 41-year-old man and a two-year-old child.

According to the police, two seriously injured people are receiving medical attention at a hospital. One of them is reportedly a child.

Bild said the suspect, a 28-year-old Afghan man, has been detained. According to the newspaper, he suffered from mental health issues before.

The circumstances of the incident have not yet been established. Last November, the police classified a portion of the park as a "dangerous place." Law enforcement officers have been put on constant duty to surveil the park.
