Tbilisi police occupy square in front of parliament, disperse protesters

TBILISI, December 1. /TASS/. Special forces have taken full control over the square in front of the parliament in Tbilisi and dispersed protesters, a TASS correspondent reported from the scene.

Officers of the Interior Ministry released a large amount of tear gas on Rustaveli Avenue, where the parliament is located and the demonstrators quickly dispersed. At the moment the situation remains tense at the intersection of Chichinadze and Zubalashvili streets.

Another part of the protesters moved up Rustaveli Avenue. There they are trying to set up barricades to prevent the special forces from advancing further. The special forces are regrouping.

Another anti-government rally was held in Tbilisi on Saturday near the parliament building. Tens of thousands of people gathered on Rustaveli Avenue. Later, the rally turned into a scuffle with the police. The Interior Ministry decided to disperse the rally. Arrests of demonstrators began.
