ECOWAS withdraws all sanctions imposed on Niger

This decision was approved during the emergency ECOWAS summit in Abuja

HARARE, February 24. /TASS/. The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) decided to withdraw all sanctions, previously imposed on Niger, Reuters reports.

This decision was approved during the emergency ECOWAS summit in Abuja, Nigeria.

ECOWAS imposed political, economic and trade sanctions last year, after a group of senior presidential guard military staff came into power in late July. They ousted President Mohamed Bazoum. The Committee for the Salvation of the Homeland, led by Presidential Guard commander Abdourahmane Tchiani, has been established to control the country.
