BEIJING, April 6. /TASS/. China's position on the Ukrainian crisis is ‘supporting talks for peace’, Chinese President Xi Jinping said on Thursday during a trilateral meeting with his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen in Beijing.

"China independently decides its position based on the merits of issues. China’s position on Ukraine boils down to supporting talks for peace," the Chinese Foreign Ministry quoted Xi Jinping as saying, "China calls on the parties to be calm and rational and jointly create conditions for peace talks. The pressing priority is to bring about a ceasefire and oppose actions that further inflame or complicate the situation."

According to the Chinese leader, Beijing will continue to actively call for peace talks. He said that "China supports EU efforts to propose approaches and plans for a political settlement of the Ukraine crisis, and to build a balanced, effective and sustainable European security framework, which serves the fundamental and long-term interests of the EU."

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and French President Emmanuel Macron are visiting China from April 5 to 7.
