ANKARA, March 6. /TASS/. The Nation Alliance opposition bloc that’s made up of several Turkish parties, on Monday nominated Kemal Kilicdaroglu, the chairman of the Republican People’s Party, which was established by Turkey’s first President Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, as the single candidate to run in the presidential elections, according to a TASS reporter attending an opposition rally in Ankara.
The opposition alliance also announced that the leaders of the other five opposition parties will be vice presidents if the opposition wins the elections.
In addition, the bloc could appoint the mayors of Istanbul and Ankara, Ekrem Imamoglu and Mansur Yavas, to the posts of vice presidents "under suitable conditions" in the event of victory in the elections on May 14.
The CHP, as the Republican People’s Party is also known, was founded by Ataturk in September 1923. Since 2010, it has been headed by Kilicdaroglu. The CHP collected from 25%-30% of the vote in some past elections, making it is the main political force in Turkey that opposes the Justice and Development Party led by President Tayyip Erdogan.
The Nation Alliance also includes the Good Party, the Felicity Party, the Democracy and Progress Party, the Future Party and the People’s Democratic Party.
