Over 50 people detained in Chisinau ahead of opposition rally

CHISINAU, November 13. /TASS/. More than 50 people were detained in Chisinau ahead of an opposition protest rally on Sunday.

"As of now, fifty-two suspiciously behaving people have been taken to the police commissariat. Nearly half of them are underaged without adults," the police wrote on its Telegram channel.

Meanwhile, a mass protest rally organized by the opposition party Sor is being held in central Chisinau.

Last Sunday, opposition protests ended in clashes with the police who blocked access to the central square, where a rally was to be held.

Today, police are blocking central streets again and are randomly stopping people for identity checks.

Grass-roots protests have been held in Moldova since June demanding the resignation of President Maia Sandu and Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilita, who are blamed for the economic crisis and skyrocketing prices for food, gas, electricity, utility services, fuels, and the record-breaking inflation of 34% The current authorities have also been criticized for putting political pressure on the opposition and jingoist statements amid the situation in Ukraine.
