MOSCOW, March 7. /TASS/. The work of the US-sponsored biological laboratories in Ukraine where viruses have been studied is the violation of international norms, this should be the subject of proceedings, including at the UN, Chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs, member of the Russian delegation Leonid Slutsky said on Monday.
"It turns out that the anti-Russia project was very multifaceted. More harrowing details continue to emerge about how exactly Ukraine was exploited by its "Western partners" as a springboard not only for deterrence, but also for a direct attack on our country," the Russian lawmaker wrote on his Telegram channel.
Slutsky recalled that "Moscow has repeatedly warned that the US biological laboratories serving far from peaceful purposes are located in a number of post-Soviet countries." "But the so-called "world community", which currently is in Russophobic agony, keeps silent and simply "turns a blind eye [to it]". Now the blatant violation by Washington and Kiev of their international obligations, primarily the Convention on the Prohibition of the Development, Production and Stockpiling of Bacteriological (Biological) and Toxin Weapons and on their Destruction (BTWC), is becoming obvious," Slutsky pointed out.
Russian President Vladimir Putin said in a televised address on February 24 that in response to a request by the leaders of the Donbass republics he had made a decision to carry out a special military operation. The Russian head of state stressed that Moscow had no plans of occupying Ukrainian territories. Russia’s Defense Ministry reported later that Russian troops were not delivering strikes against Ukrainian cities. It emphasized that Ukrainian military infrastructure was being destroyed through the use of precision weapons. Civilians are not threatened, the Russian military assured.
