MOSCOW, January 14. /TASS/. A foreign submarine attempted to approach the Iranian Navy naval exercise area in the Gulf of Oman, but was discovered and tracked by the Iranian military, the Mehr news agency reported Thursday.

According to the report, the foreign submarine "was discovered and tracked [by the Iranian military] during the final stage of the Iranian Navy maneuvers."

The report noted that the submarine’s movements were "tracked via anti-submarine helicopters."

The two-day Iranian Navy drills involving several Navy divisions began early on Wednesday. According to the Tasnim news agency, several types of cruise missiles were fired during the drills. The missiles were launched both from ashore and from the Gulf of Oman.
