Cosmonauts aboard orbital outpost hold first training in spacesuits before spacewalk

Cosmonauts Oleg Artemyev and Denis Matveyev are scheduled to make their first spacewalk as part of their ongoing space mission on April 18

ISS, April 15. /TASS/. Roscosmos cosmonauts aboard the International Space Station (ISS) Denis Matveyev and Oleg Artemyev who is also a TASS special reporter in orbit held their first training in spacesuits at the space station before their extravehicular activities scheduled for April 18.

As Artemyev reported, for this purpose, the cosmonauts checked the medical condition and "tried on" the Orlan-ISS spacesuits for their upcoming work outside the space station and inspected systems and air tightness. Artemyev and Matveyev also trained carrying out extravehicular work in spacesuits and checked communications.

The Russian crew members accomplished all their assigned tasks in full.

Cosmonauts Artemyev and Matveyev are scheduled to make their first spacewalk as part of their ongoing space mission on April 18. During their extravehicular activities, they will prepare the European Robotic Arm (ERA) manipulator for its operation on the ISS Russian segment.

Artemyev who will conduct the fourth spacewalk in his career as a cosmonaut will operate in Orlan-ISS spacesuit No. 5 with red stripes while Matveyev will conduct extravehicular activity for the first time, wearing the spacesuit with blue stripes.

On November 17, 2021, Russia’s world-renowned TASS news agency and the State Space Corporation Roscosmos signed a memorandum of cooperation, under which a TASS news office was established aboard the ISS. Presently, cosmonaut Artemyev is heading the outer space-based branch. Cosmonaut Alexander Misurkin was the first TASS special reporter in space. His flight lasted 12 days.
