BEIJING, November 2. /TASS/. Russia and China are of the same mind when it comes to NATO’s increased activity in the Asia-Pacific and have every reason to oppose this, a Russian senator told TASS.
"Firstly, the shift of NATO’s activities to the Asia-Pacific region is, in fact, taking place, and, secondly, it poses a certain threat. <…> I think that both China and Russia have every reason to oppose this in every way possible and, ultimately, to prevent NATO from spreading its activities to [this] region," said Andrey Denisov, chairman of the international committee at Russia’s Federation Council, or upper house of parliament, and former ambassador to China.
According to the senator, NATO countries "have effectively created an explosive situation" in Europe and are seeking to spread it to the Asia-Pacific, while Russia and China have "if not identical but close" stances on this matter.
Denisov is currently in Beijing as a member of the Federation Council delegation led by the upper house’s speaker, Valentina Matviyenko. He was Russia’s Ambassador to China in 2013-2022.
