Oil tanker fire in Black Sea caused no environmental issues — Kremlin spokesman

Dmitry Peskov stressed that all necessary measures had been taken promptly and effectively

MOSCOW, October 8. /TASS/. The burning of oil aboard a tanker in the Black Sea did not result in significant environmental damage, Russian Presidential Spokesman Dmitry Peskov said in response to a question from TASS, adding that "we got off lightly."

The Kremlin spokesman noted that the situation did not require any presidential directives, as the Ministry of Transport responded promptly and effectively.

"Regarding the ‘thank God’ aspect, it is worth noting that the cargo was crude oil rather than refined petroleum products. In terms of potential environmental damage, crude oil is, so to speak, less harmful. A single tanker was damaged, and the oil it carried burned off completely, effectively causing no harm to the environment," Peskov explained.

He stressed that all necessary measures had been taken promptly and effectively. "As the saying goes, we got off lightly," he added.
