MOSCOW, October 11. /TASS/. Russia expects the Moldovan side to fulfill its obligations to ensure the security of the Russian embassy in Chisinau, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said at a briefing on Tuesday.

"Meanwhile, the outrageous antics at our embassy in Chisinau continue. I hope that the Moldovan side will still find an opportunity to fulfill its international legal obligations or admit, after all, that it cannot or does not want to do so. It just does not feel bound by any conventions. However, it is Chisinau’s duty to ensure the functioning and security of the Russian diplomatic mission," she said.

"We hope Chisinau will hear us. But apparently they are following the example of their comrades, because such actions against our diplomatic missions are taking place in the US, Canada, the EU countries," Zakharova stressed.

Zakharova called the situation ridiculous. She added that since practically the beginning of the special military operation in Ukraine, anti-Russian protests have been taking place outside the Russian embassy in Moldova, which "prevent the normal activities of the embassy". "Since recently, they have been accompanied by attempts to openly intimidate our employees. The Moldovan authorities do not interfere in this situation, but simply turn a blind eye. In response to repeated demands to comply with the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations of 1961, we are told that everything possible is being done. And what for? In order for all this to continue?" the diplomat noted.

The attack on the Russian embassy took place on October 7. A man wrote offensive slogans on the fence of the mission, and then started throwing firecrackers at the building. After that, he climbed the fence and tried to enter the embassy complex. Neither the staff of the mission nor their family members were injured. However, the embassy building was damaged as a result of the incident. The Russian Embassy in Moldova sent a letter of protest. The diplomats think that the attack took place with the complicity of the Moldovan authorities. The Chisinau police told a TASS correspondent that the attacker was held for 72 hours for hooliganism despite his resistance.
