Putin appoints new acting governors in five regions

Russian President has appointed five acting governors in the Tomsk, Saratov, Ryazan, Kirov Regions and in the Mari El republic

MOSCOW, May 10. /TASS/. Russian President Vladimir Putin has appointed five acting governors in the Tomsk, Saratov, Ryazan, Kirov Regions and in the Mari El republic, according to decrees published on the Kremlin website on Tuesday.

In the Tomsk Region, Vladimir Mazur, deputy head of the Russian Presidential Department for Domestic Policy, will succeed Sergey Zhvachkin, who has been in office for two terms since 2012 and resigned earlier in the day, as acting governor.

Roman Busargin, Deputy Governor and head of the regional government, was appointed as acting governor in the Saratov Region. Earlier, Valery Radayev, who had been heading the region for ten years, tendered his resignation.

Pavel Malkov, the head of the Russian Federal Service for State Statistics, was appointed as acting governor in the Ryazan Region. Former Governor Nikolai Lyubimov announced earlier in the day that he decided not to run in the upcoming election.

In another decree, Alexander Sokolov, who worked for the Presidential Directorate for Supporting Activities of the State Council, was appointed acting governor in the Kirov region.

In Mari El, Chairman of Kalmykia’s regional government Yury Zaitsev became acting governor to succeed Alexander Yevstifeev, who also tendered his resignation earlier in the day.
