NEW YORK, February 23. /TASS/. A police officer was killed in a shootout with an armed man in a Pennsylvania hospital, the Associated Press reported.

A man armed with a pistol entered UPMC Memorial Hospital in York and took staff member hostage. When the police arrived, shots were fired, killing the attacker and one police officer.

A doctor, a nurse, a custodian and two other officers were injured in the shootout.

The police started an investigation and already identified the assailant. He had previous contact with the hospital’s intensive care unit earlier in the week and intentionally targeted the workers there.
