Russian oil shipments to India reached nearly 2 mln bpd in October

The country meets nearly 90% of its hydrocarbon requirements through imports

NEW DELHI, November 2. /TASS/. Russian oil shipments to India reached approximately 2 mln barrels per day (bpd) in October, Press Trust of India reported citing data from the analytics firm Kpler.

The data shows that imports of Russian hydrocarbons, combined with a total of 2.3 mln barrels per day from Middle Eastern countries, enabled Indian oil companies to increase their daily overseas crude purchases to a record 5.6 mln barrels last month.

At the same time, India’s fuel imports from the Middle East remain vulnerable to the volatile situation in the Strait of Hormuz region.

According to The Times of India, Russian oil shipments to India remain substantial and vital to the country’s energy security - not least due to disruptions in imports from the Middle East. These shipments remained stable in October, following a September in which India’s purchases of Russian oil reached 1.82 mln barrels per day, accounting for 35% of the South Asian nation’s total hydrocarbon imports.

India is the world’s third-largest oil importer and consumer. The country meets nearly 90% of its hydrocarbon requirements through imports.
