ASTRAKHAN, April 24. /TASS/. RZD Logistics plans to start regular deliveries of freight to China via Iran over the North-South multimodal transport corridor, Director of the Saratov Branch of the logistical operator Vera Vtorygina told reporters.
"We have developed such a route because there is a demand for an alternative to the Eastern Range, where higher load on the existing infrastructure is recorded," she said. "We have plans to boost volumes in the near time and wait for cargo owners that will be able to assess advantages of the route and become more active," Vtorygina noted.
A test deliver of Belarusian fertilizers in three full-size container trains was made last month from Belarus to China with the transit via Russia and Iran along the North-South Corridor, she said. Various cargoes are planned to be carried along these route, including containers, grain crops and oils.
According to RZD Logistics, 39,354 TEUs [20 ft container equivalent - TASS] were carried along the North-South Corridor last year.
