Russia’s gas reserves remain the same for over 20 years due to geological exploration

The Russian Ministry of Natural Resources noted that in 2000, gas reserves in Russia amounted to 63.8 trillion cubic meters, and in 2022 - 64.8 trillion cubic meters

MOSCOW, December 14. /TASS/. Gas reserves in Russia have been kept at the same level for more than 20 years thanks to reserve replacement, the supply of gas reserves at the current production level reached more than 100 years, the press service of the Russian Ministry of Natural Resources told TASS.

The ministry noted that in 2000, gas reserves in Russia amounted to 63.8 trillion cubic meters, and in 2022 - 64.8 trillion cubic meters. "This suggests that over a period of more than twenty years, gas reserves have remained at the same level. The supply of gas reserves to production is more than 100 years at the current production level," the Ministry emphasized.

The ministry added that the strategy for the development of the mineral resource base until 2035 sets an increase in gas reserves of 50%, and this figure is being met. "Russia’s gas reserves are not decreasing. Every year, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment ensures full replacement of gas reserves, almost doubling the gas supply - up to 1.1 trillion cubic meters with a production of 673 bln cubic meters," the ministry noted.

Earlier, the Vedomosti newspaper, citing a report by the Ministry of Natural Resources, reported that proven gas reserves in Russia in 2022 decreased by 1.4% compared to 2021 and by 11.3% compared to 2013.
