MOSCOW, December 14. /TASS/. The transfer of Allegro trains owned earlier by a joint venture of Finland’s VR and Russian Railways into the ownership by the Finnish side was not agreed with Russian Railways, the press service of the Russian holding said.
"Russian Railways did not endorse the transfer of trains into ownership by the Finnish side," the press service informed.
Allegro trains were made specifically for the St. Petersburg - Helsinki route and were owned by Oy Karelian Trains Ltd, a joint venture of Russian and Finnish rail operators.
In March 2022, the Finnish operator unilaterally halted movements of Allegro trains in violation of the intergovernmental agreement between the two countries. At the same time, the Finnish side repeatedly rejected proposals of Russian Railways to resume operations of trains.
The joint venture lost the source of income and could not honor its financial operations. "Therefore, non-rightful actions of VR and the Finnish management of Oy Karelian Trains Ltd resulted in insolvency of the latter," Russian Railways said.
