MOSCOW, February 19. /TASS/. The Russian Navy’s missile cruiser Varyag and frigate Marshal Shaposhnikov have arrived in India to take part in the MILAN 2024 multilateral naval exercise, Russia’s Defense Ministry reported on Monday.

"A group of naval ships from the Russian Navy’s Pacific Fleet consisting of the Guards Order of Nakhimov missile cruiser Varyag and the frigate Marshal Shaposhnikov has arrived at the port of Visakhapatnam in the Republic of India to take part in the international multilateral naval exercise MILAN 2024," the ministry said in a statement.

The visit by Russian naval sailors to India will last more than a week. The Russian crews will take part in the coastal and naval components of the drills, and also in protocol, cultural and sports events, the ministry said.

The Russian missile cruiser Varyag will be involved in the naval maneuvers while the frigate Marshal Shaposhnikov will continue accomplishing its long-distance deployment objectives after replenishing supplies, the ministry said.

The visit by the Russian Pacific Fleet’s combat ships "will serve as yet another practical step in bolstering mutual trust and developing naval cooperation with the navies of foreign states," the ministry said in a statement.
