Russian air defenses destroy six combat drones in Ukraine operation, top brass reports

Fighter aircraft shot down a Su-24 bomber and a Mi-24 strike helicopter of the Ukrainian Air Force in the Nikolayev and Kherson Regions

MOSCOW, October 9. /TASS/. Russian air defense forces destroyed six Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles and shot down nine HIMARS, Uragan and Olkha rockets in the past day in their special military operation in Ukraine, Defense Ministry Spokesman Lieutenant-General Igor Konashenkov reported on Sunday.

"In the past 24 hours, air defense capabilities destroyed six unmanned aerial vehicles, including a Bayraktar TB2, in the areas of the settlements of Snegiryovka in the Nikolayev Region, Novomikhailovka, Novomayorskoye and Blagoveshchenka in the Donetsk People’s Republic and Ustinovka in the Kharkov Region," the spokesman said.

"They also shot down four rockets of the American HIMARS multiple launch rocket system in the area of the settlement of Novaya Kakhovka in the Kherson Region and five Uragan and Olkha rockets in the areas of the community of Olkhovatka in the Kharkov Region and the city of Donetsk," the general added.

Russian combat aircraft, missile and artillery troops struck over 200 military targets in the past day in their special operation in Ukraine, Konashenkov reported.

"The strikes by operational-tactical and army aviation aircraft, missile and artillery troops struck the command posts of the Ukrainian army’s 14th mechanized and 81st air mobile brigades, the 9th regiment of the Ukrainian National Guard in the areas of the settlements of Redkodub in the Kharkov Region, Drobyshevo in the Donetsk People’s Republic and Zaliznichnoye in the Zaporozhye Region, and also 47 artillery units at firing positions, manpower and military hardware in 163 areas," the spokesman said.

Fighter aircraft of the Russian Aerospace Forces shot down a Su-24 bomber and a Mi-24 strike helicopter of the Ukrainian Air Force in the Nikolayev and Kherson Regions, Konashenkov reported.

"Fighter aircraft of the Russian Aerospace Forces shot down a Su-24 warplane of the Ukrainian Air Force in the area of the settlement of Dobroye in the Nikolayev Region and a Ukrainian Mi-24 strike helicopter in the area of the community of Mirolyubovka in the Kherson Region," the spokesman said.

Russian troops destroyed four Ukrainian ammunition and missile/artillery armament depots and two US-made counter-battery radars, Konashenkov reported.

"Four ammunition and missile/artillery armament depots were destroyed in the areas of the communities of Novoaleksandrovka in the Kherson Region, Volnoye Pole in the Donetsk People’s Republic, Zaliznichnoye in the Zaporozhye Region and in the eastern outskirts of the city of Zaporozhye," the spokesman said.

In the areas of the settlements of Kirovo and Drobyshevo in the Donetsk People’s Republic, Russian forces destroyed two American AN/TPQ-37 counter-battery warfare radars, the general added.

Russian troops uncovered and eliminated 17 militants of Ukrainian subversive and reconnaissance groups in the Lugansk People’s Republic, Konashenkov reported.

"In the areas of the settlements of Novovodyanoye, Karmazinovka and Makeyevka in the Lugansk People’s Republic, four Ukrainian subversive and reconnaissance groups were uncovered and destroyed by artillery fire. Seventeen militants, two pickup trucks with large-caliber machine-guns and one motor vehicle were destroyed," the spokesman said.

Russia’s Aerospace Forces delivered a precision strike against a Ukrainian depot of ammunition for HIMARS and Uragan rocket systems in the Nikolayev Region, Konashenkov reported.

"A high-precision strike by the Russian Aerospace Forces in the area of Bereznegovatoye in the Nikolayev Region wiped out an ammunition depot of the Ukrainian army’s 61st infantry brigade that stored over 200 rockets for American HIMARS and also Uragan rocket systems," the spokesman said.

In all, the Russian Armed Forces have destroyed 317 Ukrainian combat aircraft, 159 helicopters, 2,182 unmanned aerial vehicles, 379 surface-to-air missile systems, 5,570 tanks and other combat armored vehicles, 866 multiple rocket launchers, 3,460 field artillery guns and mortars and 6,431 special military motor vehicles since the beginning of their special military operation in Ukraine, Konashenkov reported.
