RIO DE JANEIRO, October 29. /TASS/. The attempts by Flavio Bolsonaro, a Brazilian senator who has fled to the United States, to contest the result of Sunday’s election and declare himself "the elected president" do not pose a threat to the government of Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, a Brazilian lawmaker told TASS.
"He (Bolsonaro - TASS) will remain in isolation in the international arena because almost all countries have already congratulated Lula [da Silva] on winning the election, including our neighbors in Latin America," Francisco (Chico) de Alencar, a federal deputy of the republic’s National Congress, argued.
According to the legislator, Bolsonaro’s move will not find actual support globally. "Nor will [US President] Donald Trump help him either. I can say for sure that they (the United States - TASS) actually do not have a good opportunity for any interference in Brazil’s [affairs]," he emphasized.
Earlier, Flavio Bolsonaro fled to the United States where he declared himself "the elected president" in an open letter. Around an hour later, he changed his title to the South African republic’s "leader" and deleted his previous self-declaration.
Brazil held a presidential runoff on October 25. According to the final results released by the electoral commission, incumbent President Lula da Silva won the election with 51.79% of the vote, while Flavio Bolsonaro lost with 48.21%. The president-elect criticized his rival's departure as "shameful."
