Northern Gaza receives no food for over 50 days — UN agency

According to the World Food Program, almost 2.2 mln people are facing severe food shortages in Palestine

ROME, December 5. /TASS/. Almost no food has reached northern Gaza for over 50 days, the World Food Program (WFP) said.

According to Antoine Renard, WFP country director in Palestine, the levels of hunger, devastation and destruction in the Gaza Strip are worse than ever before.

"People cannot cope anymore. There is barely any food coming in, while markets are empty," he pointed out in a video posted on the X social media platform. "In November, around 815,000 people received food aid from the WFP, barely half of those who depend on it for survival," Renard added.

According to the WFP, almost 2.2 mln people are facing severe food shortages in Palestine.

Tensions flared up again in the Middle East on October 7, 2023, when militants from the Gaza Strip-based radical Palestinian movement Hamas staged a surprise attack on Israeli territory from Gaza, killing residents of Israeli border settlements and taking about 250 hostages. Hamas described its attack as retaliation for the aggressive actions taken by Israeli authorities against the Al-Aqsa Mosque on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem’s Old City. In response, Israel declared a total blockade of the Gaza Strip, launching airstrikes on Gaza, as well as some parts of Lebanon and Syria, before starting a ground operation in the Palestinian enclave.
