UN’s silence on torture in Ukraine tantamount to complicity in these crimes — diplomat

Gennady Gatilov demanded that UN officials and experts publicly condemn what is happening

GENEVA, November 3. /TASS/. Russia’s Permanent Representative to the UN Geneva office and other Geneva-based international organizations Gennady Gatilov has slammed the United Nations structures for keeping mum about torture and the unlawful detention of people in a secret prison near Kiev.

"Where is the appropriate response from the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, and the indignant accusations from the relevant special procedures of the Human Rights Council, which routinely churn out hastily prepared anti-Russian pamphlets? Why are they now turning a blind eye to Kiev’s flagrant and inhumane crimes?" he said in a commentary posted in the mission’s Telegram channel.

He emphasized that the prohibition of torture is absolute in accordance with international law. He demanded that UN officials and experts publicly condemn what is happening. "The silence of these ‘human rights advocates’ amounts to their open complicity and participation in the horrific crimes committed by the neo-Bandera supporters," Gatilov added.
