TUNIS, April 3. /TASS/. Chairman of Libya’s High State Council (HSC) Mohammed Takala discussed cooperation on the situation involving the damaged Russian gas tanker Arctic Metagaz with Moscow's Ambassador to Tripoli Aydar Aganin, the Russian diplomatic mission reported.
"The parties paid special attention to cooperation on technical and environmental issues, including the situation with the Russian gas tanker Arctic Metagaz, focusing on ensuring the safety of the Libyan coastline and preserving the marine environment," the statement posted on the embassy’s Facebook (banned in Russia; owned by Meta, a corporation recognized as extremist by Moscow) reads. The meeting took place on April 2 in Tripoli.
On April 2, Khaled Gulam, a spokesman for the Libyan emergencies committee handling the incident involving the attacked Russian vessel, told TASS that the cable connecting the gas carrier Arctic Metagaz to the tugboat that had been towing it in recent days had snapped due to severe weather conditions. The vessel is currently drifting in the Mediterranean Sea. According to the representative of the emergencies committee, given current weather fluctuations, no party can predict the vessel’s fate or the direction in which the winds will carry it.
