Expansion of exchanges between Russian, Chinese regions helps find new projects — Lavrov

KHABAROVSK, May 19. /TASS/. The rapid growth of exchanges between Russian regions and Chinese provinces helps identify a variety of new promising projects, according to greetings by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov to participants of a plenary meeting of the Russian-Chinese forum read by head of the Foreign Ministry’s representative office in Khabarovsk Pavel Silayev.

The Sino-Russian relations of comprehensive partnership and strategic interaction are a model of equal, mutually beneficial cooperation between two global centers in the 21st century, Russia’s top diplomat stressed. "Borderline and interregional ties are their important element. The dynamic growth continues between Russian regions and Chinese provinces, which helps identify a variety of new promising projects. The Khabarovsk Region, with its rich experience of successful work with Chinese friends, holds leading positions in regional interaction. Friendly ties are maintained, trade-economic, scientific-technical and humanitarian agreements are being implemented," the minister said. "An ambitious project in a unique format, the joint development of the borderline Bolshoy Ussuriysky Island with the Chinese side, is being implemented in the region now," he added.

In May 2024, a single concept for joint development of the island was signed in the presence of the two countries’ leaders in Beijing, Lavrov noted. The forum will see a detailed discussion of the cooperation prospects that are opening in this respect, including in trade and investment, science and education, culture and sports, he said.
