Kiev's relinquishment of elimination of everything Russian crucial for settlement — Lavrov

The Russian foreign minister reiterated that promoting awareness and understanding of the root causes of the conflict by any state would constitute "the best contribution to creating conditions for a just settlement"

DOHA, February 26. /TASS/. The elimination of everything Russian has become a fundamental cause of the conflict in Ukraine. For a fair settlement to be achieved, Russia demands the Ukrainian authorities abandon this policy, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated at a news conference following his visit to Qatar.

"Today, we have once again highlighted a blatant issue that the West has deliberately and painstakingly ignored. This is the policy of the regime that came to power as a result of a government coup, which seeks to eradicate everything Russian through legislative measures in education, media, and culture," Lavrov emphasized.

Promoting awareness and understanding of the root causes of the conflict by any state would constitute "the best contribution to creating conditions for a just settlement."

"Furthermore, just recently, the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church was banned," Lavrov recalled. "This is a direct violation of the UN Charter, which mandates respect for human rights, including, above all, linguistic and religious rights. Yet, none of the Western representatives are addressing this issue."
