MOSCOW, December 5. /TASS/. The Kremlin is closely monitoring developments in Syria, maintaining dialogue with its "Syrian allies," Russian Presidential Spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.
"We are keeping a very close eye on what is happening in Syria. We are in constant dialogue <...> with our Syrian allies, with Damascus. Depending on assessments of the situation, <...> it will be possible to discuss the level of assistance that the Syrian authorities need to counter militants and eliminate this threat," Peskov told reporters.
On the morning of November 27, units of the Jabhat al-Nusra terrorist group (outlawed in Russia) launched a large-scale attack in northern Syria. According to the Syrian army command, the terrorists targeted villages and towns defended by government forces, as well as military facilities. Syrian government forces launched an operation to repel the attack.
On November 30, the Syrian army command said that strikes had been carried out on the positions of militants infiltrating many neighborhoods in the city of Aleppo. The Syrian Defense Ministry stated that the army had to regroup in order to protect the lives of civilians and military personnel and prepare for a counterattack.
