Kremlin says producing Russia’s COVID jab overseas will cover demand from other nations

Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov noted that other countries’ demand for the Russian COVID-19 vaccine exceeded the existing production capacity substantially

MOSCOW, February 18. /TASS/. The Russian authorities are working on launching the production of domestic coronavirus vaccines abroad, which will cover other countries’ demand, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters on Thursday.

He noted that other countries’ demand for the Russian COVID-19 vaccine exceeded the existing production capacity substantially.

"For that to happen, energetic efforts are made to launch the production of the Russian vaccine in a number of countries, and within the next few days at that," he said. "It will cover other countries’ demand, while our enterprises are working for the domestic market."

The Kremlin spokesman stressed that the domestic market and the health of Russian citizens were the absolute priority.

When asked in which countries the production of the Sputnik V vaccine would be launched, Peskov said that such information would be provided by the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF), which promotes Russia’s vaccines abroad.
