MOSCOW, October 29. /TASS/. Environmental issues are of particular interest to Russia as the country possesses unique forest resources, Russian President Vladimir Putin said.
Speaking at the plenary session of the Russia-Africa summit, President of the Republic of Congo Denis Sassou Nguesso noted that his country had proposed to the UN that the coming decade be declared the decade of the green economy and forest expansion.
"You have touched upon many interesting and important topics, but your final point regarding your initiative for the decade of the green economy, and the special emphasis placed on forests, the 'lungs of the planet,' is undoubtedly of critical, global significance. This is of particular interest to us, given that Russia possesses unique forest resources. We will certainly support all of this," Putin said.
