WASHINGTON, October 28. /TASS/. US spending on its military operation against Iran has reached $47 bln, The Hill reported, citing estimates submitted to Congress by the US Central Command (CENTCOM).
According to the newspaper, the figures were recorded as of October 16. Thus, total US spending on the military operation against Iran has increased by more than $3 bln since early September. As of September 3, CENTCOM had reported that the conflict with Iran had cost $43.6 bln.
The US and Israel launched a war against Iran on February 28. In June, Washington and Tehran signed a memorandum of understanding providing for an immediate cessation of hostilities on all fronts, including in Lebanon. However, overnight on July 8, the US resumed large-scale strikes against Iran, accusing Tehran of violating the terms of the agreements reached concerning the Strait of Hormuz. Approximately 25% of global oil trade and around 20% of global liquefied natural gas trade pass through the strait. Subsequently, the US administration effectively signaled an end to the use of large-scale military force against Iran and a shift toward attempts to economically strangle the country through sanctions.
