Democrats will gain control of House of Representatives following elections — DDHQ portal

According to the portal, the Democrats had secured at least 127 seats in the lower house of the US legislature

WASHINGTON, November 4. /TASS/. Democrats will gain control of the US House of Representatives following the midterm elections, according to estimates presented by the reputable American portal DDHQ.

As of 9:35 p.m. US Eastern Time (5:35 a.m. Moscow time, or 2:35 a.m. GMT on November 4), the Democrats had secured at least 127 seats in the lower house of the US legislature, while the Republicans had secured 83, according to the portal. Meanwhile, candidates from the Democratic Party have won four seats currently held by their political opponents in the House of Representatives. According to the portal’s projections, this guarantees that control of the lower house of Congress will shift to the Democrats.

There is no single federal authority in the US that declares election results. Major media outlets take on this role. Once they make their projections, candidates celebrate victory or concede defeat.

To gain control of the US House of Representatives, a party must secure 218 seats. At present, the lower chamber of Congress is controlled by the Republicans.

The United States is holding its midterm congressional elections, with one-third of the Senate and all seats in the House of Representatives contested. Voters are also electing governors in 36 states and territories.
