WASHINGTON, October 28. /TASS/. US First Lady Melania Trump has announced work to ensure the safety of a humanitarian mission in Alyoshki, Kherson Region, following a similar announcement by Russian Ombudswoman Yana Lantratova.
"These operations are being conducted pursuant to the Ceasefire Agreement," the US first lady wrote on X, citing Ukrainian Human Rights Commissioner Dmitry Lubinets.
Russian Presidential Spokesman Dmitry Peskov called the humanitarian situation in Alyoshki critical on September 21. Shelling and drone attacks by Kiev have rendered the delivery of food and medicine to the town impossible. Lantratova said earlier on Wednesday that mine-clearing operations are underway along routes used to deliver humanitarian aid and evacuate civilians from Alyoshki. "This is necessary to carry out the humanitarian mission," she stressed.
On October 23, the White House announced that Russia and Ukraine had reached an agreement, with Melania Trump’s assistance, to establish a ceasefire in Alyoshki starting October 29. The two sides agreed to halt all hostilities in the town to facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid and prepare for the evacuation of the civilian population via a safe corridor.
The Russian Defense Ministry reported that, as of 4:00 a.m. Moscow time (1:00 a.m. GMT) on October 27, the Russian Armed Forces had ceased fire on the Kherson front and established a "regime of silence" in preparation for a humanitarian operation near Alyoshki.
