Energy prices, budget impasse push Ukraine into background at EU summit — media

In addition, sources say that some EU leaders are uneasy about how Zelensky has handled his relationship with US President Donald Trump

BRUSSELS, October 16. /TASS/. Vladimir Zelensky is seeking to regain European leaders’ attention at the EU’s summit in Brussels but mounting concerns about energy prices and an impasse over the bloc’s budget risk drowning out everything else, Politico reported.

In addition, sources say that some EU leaders are uneasy about how Zelensky has handled his relationship with US President Donald Trump. According to an EU diplomat, Zelensky has been "not helpful" by hitting out at Trump in public statements.

Earlier, the European Commission said that EU gas prices had surged by 140% since the beginning of the year, while diesel prices had risen by 100%. The commission warned that Europe faced a very difficult winter, with gas stocks low ahead of the heating season. Still, the European Commission continues to reiterate its intention to make sure that all member states completely abandon Russian energy purchases.
