Crowd breaks into Albanian economy ministry’s office — media

The building of the country’s Central Election Commission was also damaged during the unrest

BELGRADE, October 16. /TASS/. Protestors broke into the office of Albania’s Ministry of Economy and Innovation on Thursday night, ransacking office spaces there, the Albanian Daily News portal said.

Later, protestors began carrying out furniture and equipment.

The building of the country’s Central Election Commission was also damaged during the unrest.

The unrest in Tirana broke out on October 13, during a student protest outside the Ministry of Education. Protests continued on the following day, and escalated when protestors, demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Edi Rama, attempted to break through to his residence. When police dispersed the crowd, rioters broke into groups and began attacking government buildings in downtown Tirana, including the parliament, the Justice Ministry, the State Archives, and other agencies.

Sali Berisha, the leader of Albania’s leading opposition force, the Democratic Party of Albania, has declared his support for the ongoing protests.
