BUDAPEST, December 11. /TASS/. Issues of Ukraine’s accession to the European Union were touched upon during a brief meeting between Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky and Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, who strongly objects against Ukraine’s EU membership, Orban spokesman Bertalan Havasi told TASS.
"The Hungarian prime minister and the Ukrainian head of state met at the Argentinian president’s inauguration in Buenos Aires. Touching upon Ukraine’s accession to the European Union, Mr. Orban noted that this issue is constantly discussed by the EU member states," Havasi said.
The Hungarian mass media released a 20-second video of Orban’s conversation with Zelensky in the hall for honored guests at the Argentinian parliament. The video features the two speaking quite emotionally to each other, but what they are saying cannot be heard.
Commenting on this video, the Origo internet media outlet said that the Ukrainian president arrived "to the other side of the world" just to try to talk Orban into supporting Ukraine’s EU aspirations.
Earlier, the Hungarian prime minister suggested that the issue of the beginning of talks with Ukraine on its accession to the European Union be excluded from the agenda of the EU summit on December 14-15 because Ukraine is not ready for that.
