NOVOSIBIRSK, October 29. /TASS/. The family of former US National Security Agency employee Edward Snowden feels fine living in Russia, his lawyer Anatoly Kucherena told TASS.
"Everything is all right [with them], everything is fine. Russia is a hospitable country, so there are no problems whatsoever to that effect," Kucherena said at an expanded meeting of the Public Council at the Russian Interior Ministry’s department in the Novosibirsk Region in Siberia.
In September 2019, Snowden told The Guardian in an interview that in 2017 he had secretly married Lindsay Mills, his decade-long partner. They gave birth to a son in December 2020.
Snowden went public in 2013 with information about the methods of electronic surveillance by US intelligence agencies, including illegal wiretapping of foreign leaders' conversations. Fleeing persecution by US authorities, Snowden submitted asylum requests to the authorities of several countries, including Russia. On August 1, 2014, he received a residence permit in Russia for three years. On December 2, Snowden took the oath of office and received a Russian passport.
