Moscow’s coronavirus situation remains uncertain, mayor says

The mayor urged Moscow's residents to observe social distance and use the protection means

MOSCOW, January 14. /TASS/. The epidemiological situation in Moscow remains uncertain although during the New Year's holidays there was a slowdown in the coronavirus spread, the capital’s mayor Sergey Sobyanin announced in his blog.

"The epidemiological situation in Moscow still remains uncertain. < ...> New Year's pause stopped the increase in COVID-19 incidence. Thanks to non-working days and a two-fold decline in the passenger traffic in public transport, many chains of coronavirus spread have been broken," according to Sobyanin.

The mayor urged Moscow's residents to observe social distance and use the protection means, and called on enterprises and organizations to meticulously follow sanitary doctors’ instructions.

Moscow ranks first in Russia in terms of COVID-19 cases. The capital’s coronavirus case tally has reached 871,535, with 4,320 cases recorded in the last 24 hours. As many as 715,438 people have recovered and 12,173 have died.
