KURSK, April 23. /TASS/. Russian combat engineers have surveyed 45 communities in border areas of the Kursk Region for the presence of explosives and similar efforts are underway in 28 more settlements, acting Governor Alexander Khinshtein said on his Telegram channel on Wednesday.
"As of now, combat engineers have combed 45 communities and efforts are underway in another 28 settlements. With the support of the Emergencies Ministry, this work will proceed faster: specialized equipment has been dispatched to the Kursk Region in addition to bomb experts from other regions. It is important for us to complete this mine-clearance effort until the onset of the cold period. After settlements are cleared of explosives, the mine-clearance personnel will start surveying agricultural fields, forest belts and reservoirs," the governor wrote.
Bomb technicians of the Russian Emergencies Ministry come as a support force for the engineering troops whose grouping has been increased to 1,000 personnel, he added.
"I have turned to Emergencies Minister Alexander Kurenkov with a request to deploy an additional group of specialists in the region and the minister has fully supported us," the governor said.
