Global food prices have fallen slightly from their September peak — UN

Price indices for cereals, dairy and meat products decreased from the previous month

ROME, November 6. /TASS/. The benchmark index for global food prices saw a slight decline in October, according to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations’ (FAO) latest Food Price Index.

The FAO Food Price Index (FFPI), which measures the monthly change in international prices of a basket of food commodities, averaged 133.9 points in October 2026, down 1.6 points (1.2 percent) from its revised September level. Price indices for cereals, dairy and meat products decreased from the previous month, while the vegetable oil price index increased only marginally and the sugar price index rose markedly. As the organization noted, the decline occurred against a backdrop of subdued demand.

Despite a decline in October, the FFPI is 5.9% higher than it was a year ago, yet it remains 16.4% below its peak from March 2022.

In September, the FAO recorded its highest price level since November 2022 amid logistical challenges and drought in several regions.
